    World is going to hell.

Well as you all well know global warming is inevitably going to cause chaos across the world not just for us but for nature as well. Climate changes, floods, enlongated seasons. Anyone heard of the Methane gun? Under the sea is loads of frozen Methane which is 8 x worse at global warming than CO2 basically once the sea is hot enough the methane will rise and basically barbeque the earth. Rainforests are being annihilated, human population keeps growing demand keeps growing... were going to outstrip this world and for what? Greed. The end of the day greed will destroy us and our world so what are you going to do about it?

The Myan calendar has doomday scheduled for December 12, 2012 so I try not to worry too much about what I can't do anything about. Just in case the Myan's were misimformed I am trying to keep the emissions to a minimum.

I miss Taco Bell. But in all seriousness, year before last I went all summer without turning on the AC. I only used some well placed fans to cool, I would have done it again last summer but it was much warmer and my cats got upset with me. Other things I am doing to do my part is I try to only use my car 4 days a week.

    Gus,

Didn't mean to hijack your thread.............I find that if I think about big issues like Global Warming, it helps me to think about my personal behavior and it's impact.

The catch phrase "Think Globally, Act Locally" comes to mind.  What can one person do?.........alot.

Do I recycle everything I can?

Do I turn lights, TV, stereo, whatever off when I leave the room?

Do I consolidate trips when possible?

Do I turn the thermostat up or down when leaving the house?

Do I turn my amp off when I finish practicing (maybe I should buy an acoustic)?

The little stuff really adds up with many people over time.

    Just sayin'...........

I hope your right, but as it stands were in big trouble, not enough is getting done. I personally think there might be another ice age on the cards, because as our climate gets warmer the gulf stream is moving south... thats the trigger.

Or who knows?  None of us have had a heart to heart with Mother Nature recently, who are we to dictate where she's going with this?  I used to be a doomsday preacher, quoting the Mayan calendar and all that, but in the end, it's all either hooey or out of your control.  I say, as E.T. says, "Be Good." That's the best that can come out of anything.

    Hey John,

how's it going buddy.  another little thing that adds up is our chargers (and power converters) for pedals, phones etc.  If I am not mistaken they draw energy even when the device is off.  I've started turning off the powerbars (where they are connected) in my studio when I am not in there.

      Hope all is well.

Re: World is going to hell.

People, I feel your pain, I work as a conservation biologist and so I am up against this everyday and yet I have learned a few things over the years and the number 1 is that natural systems are incredibly resilient. So please, fellow bass players take heart, yes we really need to change our ways not just to reduce our impacts on the environment but to make us better people, people who care about more than just ourselves, people who take responsibility for our impact on the future. There is a big shift in attitude going on in the world but good news doesnt seem to sell ad space so the media doesnt pay much attention. Climate change is coming, I see its effects everyday as part of my work, but many species are already way ahead of us in adapting to it. We need to adapt too, and, as many have pointed out reducing our energy use drastically is the first step, things are going to change big time but I believe it will all be for the good because it will make us in the west change our ways and realise that it is time to grow up as a species and take responsibility for ourselves. In the meantime nature will be getting on with coping, just as it always has. 99.99% of all species that have ever existed have gone extinct and yet look at the amazing diversity of life here on our planet today, humans were reduced by over 90% around 100,000 years or so ago and yet look at the myriad of different peoples that grace this earth. My point is that life will go on, with or without us, so please dont beat yourselves up and spend everyday angst ridden by the crap the media belches out, change takes time, some folks will never get it and go to their graves in blissful ignorance but for the carers, the leavers, we must take pride in our care and compassion and enjoy the ride into the new millenium which will bring us great sadness but also great joy and, I believe, a great re-awakening of the human spirit.

    Peace

     Nic
